Jamie Leigh Lepper
Actor. Singer. Dancer.
When I was 6 years old I performed in my first show, playing Baby Bear in Goldilocks... and I knew I was hooked. The other kids in school were playing sports during recess while I sat in the chorus room singing songs with my teachers. Instead of having playdates, I was in my room every night writing musicals, dancing in the mirror, and belting out showtunes (driving my older brother insane.)
I was born and raised on Long Island, but I always felt that I belonged in NYC. When I was 11 years old, my parents finally gave me permission to travel into the city every Saturday to take more advanced dance classes at Broadway Dance Center from 9am until 4pm. That summer, my parents also signed me up to go to Stagedoor Manor, a training program that gave me a taste of what it was like to eat, breathe, and live theatre in a professional environment. That was the year where my dreams became a reality. My passion and love for performing grew to new heights.
By high school, I still felt that I wanted more theater in my life. I auditioned and was accepted into the Professional Performing Arts School, and I moved into New York City! Although I was living with my grandparents and sleeping on the floor, I was so grateful that I had the opportunity to pursue my dreams.
And then came college. After tirelessly looking through theater programs, I fell in love with Muhlenberg College. Moving from NYC to Allentown, PA was a change, but a wonderful one. During my 4 years I majored in Theatre, focusing on acting, and minored in Dance. I performed in multiple theatre and dance productions while also joining a show choir, the school activities committee, and a sorority. I began my professional career, performing in 3 summer stock productions, with additional internships and jobs on the side. Boy was I busy, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
Now out of school with my diploma in hand, I am back home in New York and more ready and motivated than ever. I cannot wait to see what my future holds!
